About

Located in Cardiff Bay, Wales Millennium Centre is arguably Wales’ main arts centre. Since opening in 2004 the 4.7 acre centre has specialized in hosting fantastic performance art in English and Welsh including theatre, musicals, dance, opera and comedy.

Wales Millennium Centre opened on the weekend of 26-28 November 2004 with a speech from Rhodri Morgan, the then First Minister of Wales and a visit from Queen Elizabeth II. The huge centre is home to nine national arts organisations including Literature Wales, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Welsh National Opera, making it the undisputed powerhouse of arts in the country.

The main performance space of Wales Millennium Centre is the 1897-capacity Donald Gordon Theatre, while it also houses two other spaces, the 350-seater BBC Hoddinott Hall and the 250-seater Weston Studio Theatre.

The size of Donald Gordon Theatre means that it has no problem in attracting major productions to the centre such as War Horse, Evita and Macbeth. The centre is also popular with visiting speakers and comedians, as Rob Brydon, Dylan Moran and Joanna Lumley have all stopped by to entertain audiences.

With its grandeur and commitment to inclusivity, Wales Millennium Centre’s appeal as a venue is unmatched in Wales.
