Midlands Arts Centre - also known as MAC - is Birmingham’s premier arts complex. Based in Cannon Hill Park, the theatre hosts plays, concerts and films as well as comedy and exhibitions. Pick up your Midlands Arts Centre tickets right here at TickX.
Midlands Arts Centre first established itself in 1962 after Birmingham City Council made 8.6 acres of land in Cannon Hill Park available for residents to use. It previously served as home to the Birmingham Youth Theatre, and also became known for its affiliation with South Asian dance and performing arts. Since then it has specialised in presenting contemporary work, drawing in visitors from all over the UK and the world.
The theatre presents both touring productions and its own in-house creations, supporting artists that are both emerging and in the middle of their careers. MAC was responsible for launching the careers of actors like Adrian Lester and Andrew Tiernan.
MAC reopened in 2010 after it underwent a £15m renovation. It now offers several fantastic options for audiences looking for their artistic fix. Areas that the new complex contains include four performance spaces, rehearsal studios, a cinema and an art gallery. The centre also hosts a range of practical classes covering all creative disciplines from musical instruments to jewellery-making.
Since its establishment Midlands Arts Centre has hosted exhibitions and performances by many famous artists. Guests range from national stars such as director Mike Leigh to international superstars like Yoko Ono. Well-known musicians like UB40, Ocean Colour Scene and ELO have also dropped by.
There are few better places to get your art fix in the West Midlands than at Midlands Arts Centre. You can check out what’s coming up at MAC right now and find the best tickets for Midlands Arts Centre events right here at TickX.
There is level, gently sloping or permanent ramped access into the building from the car park and from Cannon Hill Park, as well as throughout the building. Automatic doors into the building are available at both entrances. Portable ramps can also be made available if required.
The café and bar, both on the ground floor, are fully accessible with plenty of room to manoeuvre. There are low counters at the café, bar and sales and information. There are also designated wheelchair spaces inside the cinema and theatres, that are kept off general sale. If you require space for a wheelchair, please call or speak to mac's sales and information team on 0121 446 3232 to book.
There are two lifts in our building. All floors are serviced by the main lift, located close to our bar and cinema, which has tactile buttons and can accommodate a wheelchair, mobility scooter or buggy 80 cm wide. Another lift servicing the Bryant meeting rooms and Hexagon Theatre is located by the café.
