Aptly nestled in Leicester’s Cultural Quarter, the Curve Theatre stages some of the best performances around. The venue was opened in 2008 by HRH Queen Elizabeth, and has since developed a strong following behind its performances and projects executed across the UK, attracting over a million visitors annually.
Curve stages many of its own productions on stage, including ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, ‘Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox’ and ‘A Clockwork Orange’. Shows are very much a mix of dramas, comedies, pantomimes, musicals and other genres, bringing in audiences of all ages and preferences. Its touring productions, such as ‘Hairspray’, ‘The Witches’ and ‘Sister Act’, travelled the world, performing on international stages in over 50 cities.
The venue itself is a spectacle. With a dramatic glazed, glass facade and curves that are designed to flow with the street the building is located on, the theatre experience begins upon arrival outside. Perhaps one of the most intriguing aspects of visiting the Curve is the ability to witness all the artistry and action on stage. During performances, spectators can witness the theatre-making process due to having no usual backstage areas found in other theatres. This really allows you to immerse into the world of theatre and feel part of the whole creative experience.
