About

Hampstead Theatre is one of London's most established Off West End theatres. This theatre specialises in producing exciting new shows by up-and-coming and mid-career writers. Don't miss out! Pick up your Hampstead Theatre tickets here at TickX.

Hampstead Theatre started in 1959 as the Hampstead Theatre Club. In its early years it hosted early plays by Harold Pinter, including The Dumb Waiter and The Room. After relocating to a small studio in Swiss Cottage, the theatre helped develop the early works of other future influential writers. These included Mike Leigh, Hanif Kureishi, Abi Morgan and Shelagh Stephenson.

In 2003, the Hampstead Theatre moved to a new purpose-built 325-seater building close to its former site. Since then, the Hampstead Theatre has continued its tradition of developing new talent while supporting mid-career or established writers. Nicholas Wright, David Hare, Amelia Bullmore and Sarah Wooley are just a few of the new writers to have developed their work at the theatre.

Hampstead's main stage is a truly flexible space, just as capable of representing a spacious Olympic amphitheatre as a cramped courtroom. As a result, you might be catching a grand scale show featuring star actors at the peak of their powers. On the other hand, you might be seeing a spare and stripped back production. Either way, you're sure to find what this space can do astonishing.

In addition to its main theatre, Hampstead Theatre features the 80-seater Hampstead Downstairs. This studio theatre focuses on displaying the works of new writers and offers a more intimate experience. If you're keen to discover the best new plays before they hit bigger stages, this is where to do it.

All in all, the Hampstead Theatre is truly the place to catch new writing in London. You can check out what shows are coming up at the Hampstead Theatre and find the best tickets for Hampstead Theatre shows right here at TickX.
