American rock band The Smashing Pumpkins are known for their critically-acclaimed album ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’, and era-defining tracks such as ‘Tonight, Tonight’. After 30 years of making music, The Smashing Pumpkins embarked on a ‘Sunny and Oh So Bright Tour’ in 2018, which saw three of four original members back together to celebrate the band's first five albums.
The Smashing Pumpkins formed in 1988, lead by lead vocalist, Billy Corgan. The band sat perfectly in the grunge of the 90s, making many iconic tracks over the years and selling over 30 million albums internationally. Towards the end of the millennium, The Smashing Pumpkins' evolved their image, and recorded songs for David Lynch's Lost Highway and Batman & Robin, which had more of an electronic feel. This was also evident in their fourth studio album Adore, which was much more electronica that alternative rock. The Smashing Pumpkins celebrated their new style with a charity tour, donating 100% of tickets, which amounted to $2.8 million, to a local charity.
Their career was wildly successful, and included excessive touring, The Smashing Pumpkins yielded to the rockstar life of drugs and disagreements, temporarily splitting in 2000. The band embarked on various separate projects in the mean time, before coming back as The Smashing Pumpkins in 2007. At the beginning of 2018, the group shocked and delighted fans with hints of their reunion and celebratory tour, reviving the sounds of ‘Gish’ (1991), ‘Saimese Dream’ (1993), ‘Adore’ (1998) live. At the beginning of 2020, The Smashing Pumpkins announced more music to come, showing no signs of stopping.
