We know that when you’re at the cinema, taste, price and convenience tend to take the priority, but which option is potentially best for you?
We took a look at the typical food on offer in the UK’s biggest cinemas to find out which snack could be the healthiest option, and which could be the least…
*Average Pick n Mix portion estimated at 100g, but really that’s on how much you can stuff in a bag
Turns out, Ice Cream is the #1 snack to get when taking in a film – just don’t get any toppings though, those will massively up your calorie intake.
Nachos also work out as a good option per 100g, but their large portion sizes can quickly take calories over 1000. Why not opt to share them with friends instead?
Sweet Popcorn works out as one of the worst choices no matter how much you get of it, however the sizing of Salted Popcorn does make a difference as it works out as one of the best choices per portion.
Nutritional info from the UK’s largest cinema chains (Cineworld, Odeon and Vue) was obtained to find the weight and calorie information of their standard portions.
An average was then drawn from their similar products to find the overall calories for that food type, both per 100g and per typical portion size.
– Only medium or regular sizes were compared
– Nachos were estimated with salsa, cheese and guacamole or sour cream as additional toppings
– An average of all available Pick N Mix options per cinema chain was used to determine their overall calories
– Ice Cream was estimated at 2 scoops
