American heavy metal group Skipknot are most known for their branded masks, theatrical and riotous live performances and distinctive music style. The garnered fame immediately following the release of their debut album Slipknot in 1999, which is now their best-selling album of all time. This was succeeded by their second album Iowa in 2001, which catapulted the band's career further and reaching the top ten of nine countries - including number one in the UK and Canada charts. It features some of their most famous tracks to date, including 'The Heretic Anthem' and Grammy-nominated 'Left Behind' and 'My Plague'.
Over 25 years since the band first formed, Slipknot have released over 15 albums in total, including several studio and live albums, many of which have been number ones and certified gold or platinum. Each has distinctive sounds showing the band's evolution and changes. Their 2019 album We Are Not Your Kind received generally positive reviews, described as one of Slipknot's strongest albums of all time. The 2020 album Look Outside Your Window differs however, described by singer Corey Taylor as having a Radiohead feel.
It's not just the band's musical taste that changes with time either. Their creative and iconic masks evolve with the albums, while the lineup of Slipknot has altered many times. Slipknot first began in Iowa in the early 1990s with original members; Wilson, Jordison, Gray, Fehn, Root, Jones, Crahan, Thomson and lead Corey Taylor, also of Stone Sour. Officially forming in 1995, they created a buzz with the release of several singles, before self-releasing their eponymous album four years later. In 2010, following the longest period of time with a consistent lineup, bassist Gray passed away from an accidental overdose. After several more changes and the release of more music, the current Slipknot lineup is Crahan, Jones, Thomson, Taylor, Wilson, Root, Venturella and Weinberg.
Over their music career, Slipknot have delighted fans with many headline tours and appearances. Their first tour in 1999-2000 saw the group travel across North America, Europe, Japan and Australia. Their second tour took them around the world to celebrate the album Iowa, and featured a performance at London Arena (now The O2 Arena) which sold out tickets and was filmed for their DVD, Disasterpieces. Several tours later, Slipknot announced their latest We Are Not Your Kind World Tour for 2019/2020 which saw extremely high demand of tickets.
The band are now considered a cultural phenomenon and icons of nu metal music, with millions of fans worldwide. Tickets to see them live are extremely popular, so make sure to follow Slipknot on TickX to find tickets and stay updated.
