English singer-songwriter and TV presenter Olly Murs first rose to fame after finishing runner up on the British reality show X Factor in 2009. He won over audiences with his charisma and cheeky chap persona, losing out to Joe McElderry in the 6th season of the show. But Olly Murs’ career has only grown since, with a platinum selling album, guest role in American drama 90210 and a presenting gig on The Xtra Factor.
Born in Essex, Olly Murs explored his interest in music following an injury that prevented a career for his other passion - football. After a failed attempt at auditioning on the X Factor, Olly Murs performed Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstition’ and Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ to get him through to the final rounds. He was immediately compared to the likes of Robbie Williams for his showman style and Pop Idol winner Will Young for their vocal similarity.
But Olly Murs has made his own stamp on the music industry. His first single ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go’ debuted at number one on the UK singles chart, and received a BRIT Award nomination for Best British Single. A chain of success followed with another number one from his debut album 'Thinking of You'. In 2010, Murs released his self-titled debut album, Olly Murs, which entered the UK Albums Chart at number two and had the biggest week one album sales for a debut album that year, selling over 108,000 copies. He’s continued to garner fame through tracks like ‘Dance With Me Tonight’, ‘Dear Darlin’’, and ‘Troublemaker ft Flo Rida’. Olly Murs has collaborated with huge talents like Demi Lovato and Snoop Dogg and has performed as support to stars such as One Direction and JLS.
