Located in the Irish capital, Leinster are one of four professional rugby teams in the country. They hold the joint record with Toulouse for the European Rugby Champions Cup, which they achieved at the end of the 2017/18 tournament. Their home games are played at the RDS Arena or Aviva Stadium, the latter of which is reserved for its larger games.
Leinster turned professional in 1995 and have since gone on to win the Pro14 tournament five times.They were also the first team to defend the Pro12 having won the championship in 2012/3, and 2013/14 as well as the British and Irish Cup.
The boys in blue became known as the ‘Leinster Lions’ temporarily as they were sponsored by the Canterbury Clothing Company. Despite no longer being the lions, they are still very much associated with the animal with a lion mascot and cubs club.
Since playing professionally, the team have gained plenty of avid supporters. The fans add so much to their efforts that they were even awarded ‘Player of the Month’ in 2009 during the European Quarter Final. Leinster attracted over 50,645 players to their Pro12 game, which was the biggest record for attendance, further demonstrating the dedication of supporters.
