Hozier is the stage name of Andrew John Hozier-Byrne, who studied music at Trinity College, Dublin. Hozier regularly went on tour as part of the choral ensemble Anuna before releasing the EP Take Me To Church in 2013.
The EP's blues-gospel pop single 'Take Me To Church' topped charts around the world. Meanwhile, its music video went viral due to its depiction of anti-gay violence. It also attracted a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year.
Hozier's self-titled debut album soon followed in 2014. It featured five singles including 'Take Me To Church', 'From Eden' and the top 20 single 'Someone New'. The record went multi-platinum in several countries. Hozier supported the album with a European and North American tour.
Hozier returned in 2018 with the EP Nina Cried Power, whose title track featured Mavis Staples. His second album Wasteland, Baby! followed in March 2019, featuring singles like 'Nina Cried Power', 'Movement' and 'Almost (Sweet Music). He later collaborated with American country music singer Maren Morris on a remix of 'The Bones' from her second album Girl.
Wasteland, Baby! topped the Irish and US charts and reached the top ten in the album charts of several other countries. Hozier also embarked on a worldwide tour to support the album, appearing on stage at Glastonbury and Lollapalooza festivals in 2019.
