See Heathers the Musical at the Palace Theatre Manchester
The dark comedy resurfaces once again to bring us high school hierarchy, cruel cliques and teenage vengeance. Following runs in the US, Australia and London, Heathers The Musical is now making its way around the UK again - including a stop at Manchester.
Based on the 1988 comedy starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, Heathers the Musical brings Daniel Waters’ film to stage. Longing to be one of the cool kids, Veronica uses her talents to get the popular Heathers girls out of detention. They take her under her wing, showing her the ropes on how to rule the school - with a cruel streak. Meanwhile, Veronica meets the mysterious new kid, JD. When a party goes awry and one of the Heathers leader is killed accidentally, Veronica and JD take it upon themselves to cover it up and take charge.
Besides bringing a whole lot of musical fun with songs such as ‘Freeze Your Brain’ and ‘Dead Girl Walking’, the play draws attention to serious issues such as bullying, teen suicide and sexual assault.
The original West End production scooped two WhatsOnStage Awards, including ‘Best New Musical’, as well as plenty of nominations. Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives) and Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde) worked with the original film’s screenwriter to transform the cult classic to a rock musical. Don’t miss your chance to catch Heathers The Musical as it lands in Manchester's Palace Theatre.
