Sitting on the banks of the River Aire, Leeds is undoubtedly the capital of West Yorkshire. Leeds is renowned for its enormous student population with four universities on its doorstep. Leeds was recently voted by the Times as the number one cultural place to live in Britain, and with good reason, as it serves as the home of Opera North, the Northern Ballet and Leeds Playhouse, the largest producing theatre in the UK outside of London and Stratford-upon-Avon. While Leeds has plenty to offer in way of high culture, its redeveloped industrial areas now serve as a stunning metropolitan hub area which is famed for its bars under converted railway arches and live music venues.
