About Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters are one of the seminal groups in modern rock music, known for selling tickets out in seconds, creating hit after hit and for just being generally nice guys.

The band arose after Dave Grohl found himself at a loss following the dissolution of Nirvana in the early 90's. Initially, Grohl intended for Foo Fighters to be a one-man-band project in order to record some of his self-composed songs.

He recorded 15 songs entirely by himself - every vocal, every instrument (almost) - over just 5 days, and he sent the demo to friends for feedback. However, it began to gather interest from industry execs, and Grohl assembled Nate Mendel, William Goldsmith and Pat Smear to record and release their debut, eponymous album Foo Fighters.

Just four months after Grohl first sat down to record, Foo Fighters sold tickets and debuted their first live stage at the Jambalaya Club in California, dodging offers for interviews and large venues whilst the band was in its infancy.

After their debut, Foo Fighters began to see huge success as a band, releasing The Colour and Shape in 1997 and There Is Nothing Left to Lose in 1999 before the end of the Millenium. The lineup has changed over the years, but always featured Grohl. It currently consists of Taylor Hawkins (as of 1997), Pat Smear, Chris Shiflett (as of 1999), Nate Mendel, and Rami Jaffee (since 2017).

The grunge sound of Nirvana can be traced in their music, which generally synthesises heavy guitar rock and anthemic melodies, with signature vocals by the ex-drummer, Grohl. Some of their most famous tracks to date include ‘Best of You’ (2005), ‘Everlong’ (1997), ‘Learn to Fly’ (1999), and ‘The Pretender’ (2002).

Their seventh studio album Wasting Light became the first number one album in the US, and their most recent Concrete and Gold also topped charts, showing how the Foo Fighters are one of the only bands emerging from the grunge/alt-rock nineties that are still thriving.

Towards the end of 2019, Foo Fighters hinted that they were recording their tenth studio album. Make sure to follow them here to get alerted as soon as Foo Fighters announce more tickets, shows or events!
