About

English Britpop band Sleeper have announced that they’re back together again for the first time in 19 years after breaking up in 1998 and pursuing their own careers. The group was known for their strong frontwoman Louise Wener, popularising the “sleeperbroke” stereotype of female fronted bands stealing the limelight. Wener was somewhat of a sex symbol in the 1990s, placing highling in Melody Maker and NME’s Sexiest Woman polls for two years in a row. ‘Smart’, their debut album was a formative part of the 1990s Britpop scene, winning the band a BPI gold disc. It was followed up by their second album, ‘The It Girl’, which dominated the charts with four singles and quickly went platinum. Their most popular hits were among ‘Inbetweener’ and ‘What Do I Do Now?’. By the time they released their third and final album, ‘What Do I Do Now?’, the popularity of britpop hand dwindled and the album saw little success, triggering a final headline tour around the UK to see the band out. Wener went on to have a successful career as a novelist, whilst Jon Stewart became a lecturer in music business and history at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music (teaching members of The Kooks, The Ordinary Boys and Kate Walsh).
