The stunning production of Disney’s The Lion King lands in Manchester once again to delight with the sounds of Elton John and the sights of the Serengeti. It’s the story we all know and love, of young Simba’s journey to become King of the Pridelands. Featuring unforgettable characters along the way, like Timon and Pumbaa, Rafiki, Nala and Zazu, relive Disney’s most beloved tale live on stage at the Palace Theatre, Manchester.
The musical first surprised audiences on Broadway two decades ago. It has since travelled around the world and scooped up countless awards including Tony Awards for ‘Best Direction’ and ‘Best Musical’, and Laurence Olivier Awards for ‘Best Theatre Choreographer’ and ‘Best Costume Design’. Julie Taymor is the mastermind behind the groundbreaking masks and puppetry that evoke the wild animals.
The production opened in the West End in 1999 and has remained one of London’s most popular shows. It’s a family favourite, and features all the memorable songs from the 1994 animation. Sing along to ‘Can You Feel the Love’, ‘Hakuna Matata’ and the epic ‘Circle of Life’ as Elton John and Tim Rice’s soundtrack are reimagined before your eyes.
