See Back to the Future: the Musical at the Adelphi Theatre
From the producers of Ghost the Musical, and creators of the cult 1985 sci-fi film comes a brand new musical. Back to the Future the Musical is the long-awaited stage adaptation, bringing Marty McFly back to the present. The show opens at the Adelphi Theatre after a truncated preview in Manchester. Having such a large fan base, tickets for Back to the Future are in huge demand so make sure you get your tickets early!
The book by Bob Gale, who worked on the film, stays close to the motion picture. It follows teenage Marty, then played by the fresh-faced Michael J Fox, who unintentionally travels back in time. Arriving 30 years in the past, Marty meets his parents as teenagers. He develops a friendship with his father and the love interest of his mother. He goes to work matchmaking, while also on a mission to return to his own time. But will he inadvertently impact the future? And will Marty ever make it back?
Gale was inspired to write the film script when wondering what it would be like to meet his father as an adolescent. Together with Robert Zemeckis, the pair wrote Back to The Future, a film which would become a worldwide phenomenon. The blockbuster was the highest-grossing of that year, but its legacy extends to this day. It lead to spin offs, an animated series, theme parks, video games, and comics – and now this spectacular musical.
Don't just take our word for why you should get tickets for Back to the Future! Gale couldn’t be happier about the adaptation. “We’re thrilled that we can retell our story on stage in a brand-new way, and we’re certain that Back to the Future fans all over the world will share our enthusiasm. In the words of Marty McFly, ‘your kids are gonna love it’ – and so will you and your parents. There’s truly no better way to celebrate the movie’s 35th Anniversary, and we’re happy to say ‘The Future’ is coming back!”
Not only does the musical have a book by the film’s original creator, it also features brand new music by Grammy-winning Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy-winner Glen Ballard. Songs include ‘The Power of Love’ and ‘Johnny B. Goode’. Joining the talented creative team is Tony Award-winning director John Rando. Olly Dobson will also play Michael J Fox’s quintessential ‘Marty’ following his roles in ‘Matilda’ and ‘Bat Out of Hell’.
The film’s iconic status mean that Back to the Future tickets will likely fly from box offices. But unlike the musical, there’s no travelling back in time, so make sure you get yours quick!
