Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Anitta’s star is continuing to rise. Real name Larissa de Macedo Machado, Anitta is arguably Brazil’s most commercially powerful pop singer, wowing crowds in her native country and across the world with her distinctive blend of Latin pop, R&B and favela funk.
Anitta began singing at the tender age of 8 in a choir at the Catholic church in her childhood neighborhood. By the time she was 16, Anitta finished an administration course at a technical school in Rio, but she was clearly destined for more. A chance discovery of her singing on YouTube by an independent record producer led Anitta to get her first record deal in 2011, and she signed to major label Warner Music Brazil in 2013. Anitta soon shot to stardom with her Brazilian No. 1 single Show das Poderosas later that year.
Now three albums into her career, Anitta has won a raft of MTV Europe Music Awards, being named Best Brazilian Act four years in a row between 2014-17. Her debut self-titled album has since been certified platinum in her native Brazil. In June 2018 Anitta will come to Europe for a whirlwind tour, playing at Rock in Rio Lisboa, the Trianon in Paris and the Royal Albert Hall in London. There’s no better soundtrack for the summer.
